Open University - blood sample of student sent for testing

The police say that a blood sample of the student who allegedly assaulted the head of the law faculty of the Open University has been sent for testing to determine the drug he took following the incident.
Police said that the student is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kalubowila Hospital and added that fourteen eye-witness statements had been recorded in connection with the incident.
The student has been remanded until July 2 following a visit by the Nugegoda Magistrate to the Hospital.
The student in connection with the incident is reported to be a doctor and a resident of Jaffna; who had allegedly assaulted the Head of the Law Faculty, Yashodara Kadirgamathamby with a sharp weapon on Wednesday afternoon.
The Director of the National Hospital, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that the condition of the lecturer receiving treatment at the ICU was improving.
