Dengue rages unabated


The number of dengue patients is on the rise in Colombo, while campaigns to clean up premises of schools and universities are continuing.

According to the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam, 1,404 cases had been detected in the first half of the year. He said the rains had exacerbated the problem, and in the first two weeks of June, as much as 166 suspected cases of dengue, including six deaths, had been reported.

"We are continuing with the inspection of buildings in the Colombo city, and have charged owners/tenants of 455 premises. Notice had been served on 1,085 persons,"
