Bribery and corruption rampant at WPC RMV


Incidents of bribery and corruption seem to be rampant at the Registration of Motor Vehicles (RMV)Department that comes under the Western Provincial Council.


Sources who wished to remain anonymous told Ceylon Today, it is mandatory that an applicant for a vehicle licence should submit a non-belching certificate with regard to the vehicle. However, the source also mentioned that if Rs 1,000 was conferred on the correct person, one could walk away with the vehicle licence in his or her pocket.


There are five officers in the Shroff Unit who appear to know the terrain having worked over nine years at the same desk. The aforementioned source alleged that one officer has bought a new car while others have built palatial houses.


A certain officer is alleged to have accumulated about Rupees 2.1 million from the time period spanning 13 May 2013 until today, the source said, without revealing the basis for the time period.The bigger sharks are on the top rungs of the administration the source further stressed, naming two individuals who are notorious bribe-takers.
